Founder and instructor
Renewable-energy professional, technical educator, program developer, and hands-on problem solver.
Abe brings 29 years of renewable-energy experience and 15 years of college-level teaching experience to WattsUp Academy. He has taught and mentored approximately 2,000 students across renewable energy, solar, wind, storage, hydrogen, alternative fuels, manufacturing, drafting, troubleshooting, and workforce training.
As full-time faculty, program developer, and program lead at Clackamas Community College, Abe built hands-on coursework, supported industry-connected workforce programs, developed technical labs, and helped learners prepare for careers, internships, credentials, and professional advancement.
His teaching is built around connection: helping learners understand not only individual components or vocabulary, but how the whole system works and why each decision matters.
Selected experience
Course and program development in solar, wind, hydrogen, alternative fuels, storage, industrial science, drafting, manufacturing, troubleshooting, and smart-grid concepts.
Workforce-program development, industry partnerships, advisory relationships, budgets, grants, labs, equipment, and instructor support.
Practical work with renewable-energy systems, fuel cells, hydrogen, alternative fuels, testing, commissioning, and technical problem solving.
Teaching philosophy
A lot of technical training becomes either too shallow to be useful or too academic to feel approachable. Abe aims for the middle ground: technically serious instruction that helps learners see how the pieces connect.
The goal is not simply to finish a lesson. It is to create the moment when the learner can explain the system, apply the idea, and make the next decision with confidence.
“I use a lot of what I learned in your classes throughout my career and in improving my own property.”
